The holy grail of German psych-folk. Carol of Harvest were founded in the Middle-Franconian town of Fürth in 1976 and played folk with psychedelic touch. Their only LP was released in the summer of 1978 as a very small edition of only 200 copies, on the sought-after Brutkasten label. Label owner Peter Klimek regards the LP as the best record released on his label. It is reminiscent of the early 1970s rather than 1978. The LP is in such great demand that it is meanwhile traded at € 2,000 – 3,000 in mint condition. There are now several new editions of the album, as LP and as CD, about half of them illegal. Gäa from the German state of Saarland have become quite known in collectors’ circles thanks to their LP "Auf der Bahn zum Uranus" from 1974. In early 1975 they recorded three tracks for a, however, unfinished second album. They are simply brilliant and show how mature and inventive the band was at that time. The tracks have been rediscovered later and form the heart and major part of the LP, which also contains four minor bonus tracks from the 80s. Although these tracks are no longer progressive in the strict sense, they have been added for the sake of completeness and because there was time left. The history of Missus Beastly from Herford is very confusing. Their first LP (CPM LP S 002) - from 1970, self-titled, with a red cover - still could be filed under "Underground". "Nara asst incense" (OPP 5-32) is an illegal re-release of this LP. Their second record (Nova 6.22030) - again self-titled, in a gorilla cover - came out in 1974. It is instrumental jazz-rock, played by a significantly changed line-up. The corresponding Germanofon bootleg CD presents three bonus tracks which are not, however, songs of our Missus Beastly. To crown it all, there was a group that had the audacity to pose as Missus Beastly and even released records under their name. The first legal CD edition of the real Missus Beastly's second LP has now been released, taken from the master tape. SILOAH was re-formed by Thom Argauer in 1971 after their Munich hippie community had split following the release of the band’s first record. Although "Sukram Gurk" was recorded under the same elementary conditions as its predecessor and had a similar psychedelic touch, it fails to achieve the sort of charisma evident in the first record. Thom now played the keyboards instead of the guitar. Both works were released on CD as early as 1993 on the Lost Pipedreams label, but this final release has crackling sounds in the second part of "Feast of the pickpockets" removed from the master tape. It bears witness to the music of that time, a must only for those who want to have everything. Thom Argauer, a very nice guy, whose help was essential in releasing the two Siloah CDs, died in early 1999.
On their second record, which is again highly psychedelic, the organ is dominant. One can hear that most of the line-up was revised. Very strange. Taken from the master tapes. 超名作!!ダルムシュタットにて70年代に結成されたバンドEmma Myldenbergerのメンバーであった3人、Michel Meyer、Philipp Gullatz、Topsi Tkaczが新たなインストゥルメンタル・グループとして80年に始動したRadio Noisz Ensemble。オリジナルは恐らくカセットフォーマットにて出回った(?)と思われる、1982年~83年までのスタジオテイクを纏めた音源の大幅拡張CDリイシュー版!!前作よりも更に自由なアプローチに成功した前衛志向の強い内容で、フリーインプロヴィゼーションの要素やら風変わりなボーカル入りの楽曲(1曲のみ)までを披露、ボーナスでは最高に突き抜けたライブバージョンが聴けます。オリジナルには収録されていない7つのボーナストラックを追加。32ページブックレットが付属するGarden Of Delightsの超良質復刻。
Radio Noisz Ensemble was the successor band to the more folk-oriented six-piece Emma Myldenberger, who released two LPs in the late 1970s, and followed those with a live cassette after the turn of the decade (all since released on CD). Three members (guitarist / mandolinist Michel Meyer, reeds player Biber Gullatz, and Topsi Tkacz on violin and contrabass) of Emma Myldenberger formed RNE in ’81, who along with percussionist Matthias Gassert and special guest Mani Neumeier (Guru Guru), recorded the band’s first LP Yniverze in 1982. Gassert was replaced by Sigi Siegler on this, the band’s second recording, which in its original incarnation was only released as a cassette. Here, in its CD debut, it appears with seven bonus tracks as a full 77 minute disc.
Odiszée-Parck is a bit more free sounding than its predecessor, incorporating elements of jazz, classical, world-music, and free improvisation (especially on the truly out-there “Why Art We So Hungry?”, the album’s only vocal piece) into one cosmic whole. The first bonus track “Green Bananas” encompasses all of the band’s best tendencies, and is perhaps their finest moment. Remaining bonus tracks are mostly live versions, including reworkings of some pieces originally recorded with Emma Myldenberger. The more prevalent use of tabla as opposed to a full drum kit, double-reeds, violin, and Chinese and Arabic flutes goes far to take their instrumental profile into a more world-music direction, while the constructs remain more in the jazz and classical idioms, with a touch of avant-garde experimentation.
The astute listener might at times be reminded of contemporaries Between or Oriental Wind, early Third Ear Band, Do’a circa Ornament of Hope, or the music that Embryo was evolving toward in the early 1980s. This album can be considered Emma Myldenberger's epilogue or even their fourth album. Indeed after the third album Live (only released under the cassette format at the time (and recently reissued in Cd by the God label, the group sort of managed to survive a few months later but members were abandoning the ship.
Definitely an excellent album, Yniverse easily compares to Tour De Trance and in some ways is better. After Uli Trepte had left the band, Guru Guru had one of their first gigs with Bruno Schaab on bass in the assembly hall of the Germania-Heim in Wiesbaden on November 4th, 1972. They played in front of about 200 to 300 people. The whole concert was recorded expertly and in stereo, with the consent of the band and the promoter, Robert Huth, by Muck Krieger, sharing a flat with Xhol (Caravan), a band they were friends with and which had just broken up. The equipment used - an Uher tape recorder CR 124 and Revox microphones - were then state-of-the-art technology. Here you will hear three overlength versions of Guru Guru tracks in a perfect sound quality. They could thus freely display and develop their play without having to keep to the limited playing time of an LP side. Agitation Free's 2nd stands as one of Germany's finest instrumental rock albums of the 1970s and a classic for fans of progressive rock and Krautrock. Despite the fact that the group had problems keeping its cohesion at the time, these troubles never affect the music. 2nd presented a daring blend of Krautrock-type extended jams, laid-back attitude, and experimentation. The music remains very psychedelic in nature, more early Can than Faust. The presence of acoustic guitars and bouzouki emphasizes the easygoing nature of the music, along with Stefan Diez's elegant guitar soloing, while occasional free-form passages keep things on the edge. The opener, "First Communication," is pure Krautrock and the hardest-driving tune. It belongs on every anthology of German rock. Michael Hoenig's synthesizer experiment "Dialogue and Random" provides an interlude before the two-part "Laila" kicks in. The latter juxtaposes prog rock and fusion jazz sections with beautiful audacity. Side B of the original LP is a lot quieter. Birds chirp at the beginning of "In the Silence of the Morning Sunrise" and the pastoral mood carries over to the nine-minute "A Quiet Walk." "Haunted Island" ends with a mid-tempo rock number featuring a recitation of Edgar Allan Poe's "Dreamland." One of the very best records on Garden of Delights, if not the best one in general. Purely psychedelic music. There are no weak parts on the album at all. Only impressive songs played by talented musicians, recorded professionally, and taken from the master tapes. Everything fits together quite perfectly. Fans of early Pink Floyd will thoroughly enjoy the LP. Its style is reminiscent of the late 1960s. All songs, except for the rather catchy "Lory", are very mysterious and reveal their real beauty only after being listened to for several times. It's a shame that Lightshine from Emmerich have not released any further material. The one at hand is an aural pleasure from the first to the very last tone. The original LP was released on the Trefiton label in 1976. This album contains three instrumental jazz rock jams recorded by Radio Bremen in September 1974 shortly after the band had produced the second LP. Keyboarder Dieter Miekautsch had left the band towards Embryo and Eddy Maron, also known from contributions for Vita Nova and Dzyan, brings new aspects to the music - it's quite a new impression of the band. The sound quality leaves nothing to be desired by the way. "Nara asst incense" (OPP 5-32) is an illegal re-release of this LP. Their second record (Nova 6.22030) - again self-titled, in a gorilla cover - came out in 1974. It is instrumental jazz-rock, played by a significantly changed line-up. The corresponding Germanofon bootleg CD presents three bonus tracks which are not, however, songs of our Missus Beastly. To crown it all, there was a group that had the audacity to pose as Missus Beastly and even released records under their name. The first legal CD edition of the real Missus Beastly's second LP has now been released, taken from the master tape. First released in 1976 as the third LP by Missus Beastly. With very few vocals and a strong jazz touch. The bonus tracks were recorded on the Vlotho festivals 1976 and 1977.
“Dr. Aftershave and the mixed-pickles” (April 00001) was Missus Beastly’s third album, which once more presented some solid jazz rock, mostly instrumental. It was at the same time the first album to be released on April, the new self-distributing label run by Missus Beastly, Ton Steine Scherben, Embryo, and Sparifankal. The LP was recorded in the well-known Stuttgart Zuckerfabrik studio (a former sugar refinery) at the beginning of 1976. The two CD bonus tracks were recorded at the Vlotho festivals (“Umsonst und draußen” [outside and for free]) 1976 and 1977. At that time, they were presented on the annual festival LPs. “Dr. Aftershave” was actually planned to be released on CD years ago, but some unexpected obstacles caused a long delay. Missus Beastly from Herford were among the most famous German psychedelic bands, with the most confusing history of all of them. After the break-up of the first Gila line-up -- available are the LP / CD "Gila" (1971) and the CD "Night works" (1972) - and Conny Veit’s move from Stuttgart to Munich, the latter founded a new band, retaining the old name. Instead of their former lenghty improvisations, their tracks were now tightly arranged. Their only album, "Bury my heart at Wounded Knee", which was inspired by Dee Brown’s book of the same title and deals with the expulsion and extermination of native North Americans, features three American Indian lyrics (translated into English) and received good reviews without exception. The LP was released in 1973 on WEA / Warner Bros., while in 1995 a really bad bootleg CD was released by Germanofon. On both covers the tracks were mistakenly listed in the wrong order. This is, in fact, the second Gila record whereas "Bury my heart at Wounded Knee" is the third. As yet unknown tracks, recorded in early 1972 by the original Gila line-up. With 32-page coloured booklet.
"Night works" is actually Gila’s second record, "Bury my heart at Wounded Knee" only the third, featuring tracks unknown up until now, which were recorded during a gig on 2 / 26 / 1972 with the band’s first line-up. The recording quality does not meet today’s expectations, but a lot of effort was invested to get rid of background hiss and other noises with the help of the most modern digital equipment. Nothing was changed, however, and listeners may forgive some flaws and imperfections as it was impossible to do more. The picture on the cover was painted by Conny Veit himself. The 32-page booklet contains an extremely elaborate history of the band in German, English and Swedish, a very meticulous discography and all sorts of photos of labels and covers, leaving nothing left to be desired. SILOAH was re-formed by Thom Argauer in 1971 after their Munich hippie community had split following the release of the band’s first record. Although "Sukram Gurk" was recorded under the same elementary conditions as its predecessor and had a similar psychedelic touch, it fails to achieve the sort of charisma evident in the first record. Thom now played the keyboards instead of the guitar. Both works were released on CD as early as 1993 on the Lost Pipedreams label, but this final release has crackling sounds in the second part of "Feast of the pickpockets" removed from the master tape. It bears witness to the music of that time, a must only for those who want to have everything. Thom Argauer, a very nice guy, whose help was essential in releasing the two Siloah CDs, died in early 1999.
On their second record, which is again highly psychedelic, the organ is dominant. One can hear that most of the line-up was revised. Very strange. Taken from the master tapes. Christian Burchardを中心にAMON DUULやPopol Vuh脈の音楽家達により69年に結成されたバンドEmbryo。オリジナルは1972年にUnited Artists Recordsよりリリースされた3rdアルバム[Father, Son And Holy Ghosts]のCDリイシュー版。ジャズやら無国籍な民族音楽をドロドロと混ぜこぜにした非常にドラッギーな一枚で、とにかくディープな怪しさが終始充満する編成、またインプロ色強めの演奏が激ヤバ。オリジナルには収録されていない20分の長編ボーナストラック(コレも非常に良い)を追加。ブックレットが付属するGarden Of Delightsの超良質復刻。
This album is a bit difficult to pigeonhole, as most of the early Embryo work is. The opening number sounds if anything, like an outtake from Miles Davis' Jack Johnson soundtrack, but with lead guitar sound more prominant. Then, gears are switched, and you are listening to acoustic folk guitar and sitar, which melts into a cool ostenato riff flanging around, that just builds and builds, with countermelody on Violin (or Veena?) and guitar weaving in and out, along with the drum parts. The song ends back at the acoustic guitar passage it started at, with a flute playing the main theme. After that, a funky little number dances out of the speakers. Its the end of the first side of the album, and yrics are heard for the first time. But lyrics are not what Embryo is about. In fact, I always hear their lyrics, as something more as slogans, employed not unlike the heads of jazz songs. An idea is anounced, and a hook perhaps implied, and then......the singing ends, and the jamming begins. (The singing on the song that has it, lasts less than a half minute.) This song, King Insano, is written by David King, the newest Embryo member, who played on this album, and disappeared. Again, this is a funk song, with guitar leads built on top. A lot more negative space is used here, and when the guitar solo all but disappears, a dense, thickly textured latin like drum/percussion solo slides into prominance.
It is interesting, that there seems to be no bass on this album. (No bass player is listed, and no bass listed on the instruments the musicians are using.) Perhaps when you have a drummer like Burchard, his bass drum becomes all the bass you need. Oddly, you never even notice the bottom end lacking in bass guitar. Had that been put into the mix, the sound would have become too chaotic, and possibly muddy. So much of this album has a chill out vibe too it, not found in the band before. Naturally, the songs don't linger on the ambient side of things. Rather, its more of a sense of dynamics, tempo and texture that brings a bit of ambience into the soundscapes.' - W.T. From the 1950s, Masaaki Takano (1927-2007) worked as a freelance "sound planner," mainly creating sound effects for stage productions. In the mid-1980s he began performances called "Sound Play" where he would perform on his own self-created sound instruments and his collection of ethnic instruments. Growing out of his work with sound effects, he became obsessed with the recording of natural sounds from the 1970s onwards, and this album "Shizukutachi" is a record of a high-quality recording of water droplets that he created in the studio using his own self-created suikinchiku system. This reissue recreates the original LP, using special paper to create beautiful packaging and duplicating the original, ultra-transparent vinyl. The reissue includes newly penned, detailed liner notes by Tomotaro Kaneko (owner of the Japanese Art Sound Archive).

*Edition of 200* Ginevra Bompiani is most likely unknown for fans of experiential music. In Italian literature and thinking, however, she is highly regarded writer, editor, translator, essayist, and academic, whose fiction, particularly, is informed by linguistics, feminism, and literary theory, and verges on the surreal and the fantastic, making her interdisciplinary effort, ‘Il Calore Animale’, collaborating with two of the most singular voices in contemporary experimental music - Caterina Barbieri and Tomoko Sauvage - entirely logical.
The LP, ‘Il Calore Animale’ comprises four short stories read by Ginevra Bompiani, recorded at her home in 2018 by Francesco Cavaliere, that were originally published in her volume ‘Le Specie del Sonno’ (The Species of Sleep) in 1975 with an introduction by Italo Calvino, where he stated “The landscape created by her prose recalls those paintings in which peaceful figures are asleep in a quiet wood, or a solitary house, or any place where the senses can dim and reason's guard is dropped.”
The texts that Bompiani reads dive into the mystical world of myth and allegory, bring traces of the ancient world and mind alive in the contemporary realm. Against the delivery of her voice, the four pieces are threaded by musical pieces composed by Tomoko Sauvage and Caterina Barbieri. Sauvage’s two contributions, “I frutti” and “Il serpente d’acqua”, were composed, performed, and recorded at INA GRM – Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris, and build upon her broader body of work incorporating the sounds of amplified water, drawing haunting sonorities and textures howling from unknown depths. Barbieri’s two pieces - “Il calore animale” and “La pariglia” - other the other hand, encounter the composer returning to the classical guitar, unfurling rippling arpeggios, patterns, and melodic elements into the world created by Bompiani’s words.
Beautiful and deeply original, while calling the mind back to both the ancient world and earlier moments in cross-disciplinary collaboration like Fratelli Fabbri Editori’s “music fables”, from which the inspiration for Dischi Fantom’s new series was drawn, Ginevra Bompiani’s ‘Il Calore Animale’ (Animal Warmth) is a stunning and deeply inspiring body of work. For the better part of the last 20 years, Cavaliere has woven intimate tapestries of sound from a strikingly singular pallet of processed source material that have resulted in startling abstractions. It is this departure point that underscores ‘Zoomachia Disc 1’, a radically new way of working in the artist’s output. A musical fable written, composed, and performed by Cavaliere, the tale unfolds in two acts - ‘Il grillo ventriloquo incontra Setha la mantide’ (The ventriloquist cricket meets Setha the mantis) and ‘Atta e Volma nel regno delle api di vetro Ossax’ (Atta and Volma in the Ossax realm of glass worker bees) encountering a range of insect character in various guises: a cricket, spider, and numerous mantis, ants, and bees.

The Brussels-based Razen make experimental and minimal music with unconventional instruments, focusing on tuning, intonation and the use of intervals. Their The Night Receptionist album sees them working again with performance artist and poet, videographer and self-portrait painter Bryan Lewis Saunders. Recorded during a two-week residency at QO2 in Brussels in 2016, The Night Receptionist employs a just intonation system based on the tonality diamond of Harry Partch. The instruments of choice were sarangi, double bass, recorders, shawm, monochord, santur and a selection of hommels.
Easily the most monochrome and minimal music the band has ever recorded, with a timbral effect that is dreamy and twilight-like, Bryan Lewis Saunders' voice adds a layer of hushed disconnection and disenchantment, recounting the story of a failed gymnast turned night receptionist, wishing for acts of anti-gravity and catching salamanders. Charlemagne Palestine's performance on the organ of the Friedenskirche, Eupen for the reihe-M showcase at the Meakusma Festival 2019 was one of the many highlights of that year's festival edition. This record features the full live performance as Palestine conjures up his dense definition of maximized minimalism, introducing the performance with a minimalist drone and himself singing on top. His voice touches upon melancholy and the absurd and gives the piece context and direction. From there on, anything goes. The piece develops while complex layerings of chords and musical sentiments shift in and out of focus, yet all take center stage all the time. Ending the piece, Palestine excitedly shouts out that the organ is still the best synthesizer ever made. In typical Palestine fashion, his performance made the whole church resonate, an effect that can be repeated easily when listening at home, because this record demands volume and lots of it.
Brooklyn-born Charlemagne Palestine has long been hailed as one of the originators of modern minimalist and experimental music. He very firmly describes his music as maximalist. Realistic Monk is the new performance project from Carl Stone in collaboration with artist and composer Miki Yui. Carl Stone is one of the pioneers of live computer music and has been composing electro-acoustic music almost exclusively since 1972. The Village Voice has famously hailed him as 'the king of sampling'. Miki Yui is an artist and composer who develops pieces of music, drawings and sound installations that start from a perception of the faintest sounds and noises and subtly reference existents.
Realistic Monk has previously released the recording of their 2017 live performance at Café Oto, making Realm their de facto debut album. Over the course of five pieces, they focus on small sounds, often at the edge of perception, aiming at a deeper listening and perception of their musical stance and technique. Soundscapes that play with enchantment and disenchantment, emerging out of voices, noises and field recordings and acoustic feedback, their work is as subtle as it is fearless. Realm's play with musical and other signifiers make the album into a highly relevant and even outspoken take on electronic music today.

Au-delà is a collaborative record by La Scie Dorée and Meakusma. It features eight pieces of music by La Scie Dorée affiliates. For the 2018 Meakusma Festival, La Scie Dorée and Meakusma set up a collaboration that brought performances by Timo Van Luijk, Steven Stapleton, Christophe Heemann, Daniel Denis, Bart De Paepe, Kris Vanderstraeten & daniel duchamP to the festival in Eupen, Belgium. This was followed up with a night organized in the province of Limburg in Belgium featuring performances by Frederik Croene and Timo Van Luijk, Tom James Scott, Ecka Mordecai and Andrew Chalk.
Timo Van Luijk founded La Scie Dorée in 2000 to release his solo work as Af Ursin and the various collaborative projects he is involved in. Af Ursin opens Au-delà with a piece escaping straightforward definition, setting the tone for the album. The general focus of Au-delà is on musical space and the at times gentle yet always focused upset of musical and emotional signifiers. Tracks by legendary artists such as Michael Ranta, Steven Stapleton and Christophe Heemann together with work by relatively young or obscure performers and new projects such as Circaea, Raymond Dijkstra, Bart de Paepe and Berrocal Epplay all delve into the niche that is free improvisation, frankly defining inward and outward space and movement and thus questioning the purpose of the niche itself.
Au-delà features a music that borders and transcends the genres of free improv, ambient, industrial and avant-garde composition. Its intention lays firmly in surpassing the general idea that experimental and improvised music is intended for the initiated only. Its subtle stance on musical beauty only adds to that intention.

One of their finest work - For all the lip service paid to the idea of the liberation of the performer, in contemporary art music creativity has become even more the prerogative of the individual and of the individual composer in particular. Two live recordings by master improvisers John Tilbury (piano) and Eddie Prevost (percussion) playing two emotional sets that are quiet at just the right times and allow for a balanced amount of white space, creating beautiful music. "A new AMM album then, always a welcome arrival, capturing two relatively recent London performances from the duo of Eddie Prévost and John Tilbury. one of which I attended, and the other I could not. Both capture really rather wonderful sets of music, the first, from the As Alike as Trees festival in March 2011 being the finest AMM set I have caught live in many a year, though I am fortunate enough to have heard quite a few, though the second recording here, from the Purcell Room in November of the same year is also a lovely set. The last AMM album before this one, Uncovered Correspondence was also a very fine album, the best since the group's reduction to a duo, and these new recordings I think show how Prévost and Tilbury have developed a style to their playing that no longer seems to seek ways to fill the spaces left in the music, as their first performances as a duo seemed to do. These new recordings, while as intensely emotionally charged as ever, if not more than ever, allow a lot more white space and air into proceedings. There is a sense of clarity and precision here that when coupled by the virtually telepathic understanding these two have leads to quite stunningly beautiful music.
The first piece, titled here E1 AMM, a reference to the London postal code of the recording venue, opens with Tilbury crashing his forearm slowly, and repeatedly onto the keys of his piano for a good few minutes as Prévost adds subtle, softly bowed metal percussion, matching the violence with serenity and immediately casting the performance into a state of continually precarious balance. This opening salvo, when seen live left me breathless, and while the removal of the visual elements tones down the intensity of the occasion quite a bit, the passion in the performance, and the uncertainty that such an opening presented both the audience and the musicians with is still audible here. The second recording, SE1 AMM is an undulating, perhaps more familiar affair with quiet, often very quiet passages allowed to build into a series of crescendoes. The passages that close the recording, which was made at a concert put on as part of a Cornelius Cardew celebration, consisting of Tilbury mostly alone, playing slowly, with immense solemnity and beauty are really extraordinarily beautiful, with Prévost joining him right at the very end with some of the gentlest, most poignantly restrained sounds I have ever heard from him. The understanding, the ability to form such perfectly formed, expressive music in the moment together is, in my opinion, unrivalled between two musicians today.
Of course, the instrumentation is as you expect from AMM. Tilbury plays the piano, inside and outside, and Prévost bows and strikes metal objects of various sizes, some of them pressed into the head of a snare drum. With the exception of some unusual, agitated sounds from Prévost here and there on the first piece, there is nothing in the instrumentation or the sounds the duo pull from them that breaks new ground on a particularly cosmetic, obvious level. This sounds exactly like an AMM album, but there is a sense of continual development here, the ongoing conversation, stark discussions in places but held with a fluidity that AMM have not had for a while. Its as if a new language has been learnt, and so now the frank conversations can be more easily held, albeit it with less phrasing, but with precisely the right words chosen and nothing more.
It is easy to throw the usual rapturous applause at anything AMM do, but there isn't a more fully refined and explored musical relationship than Prévost and Tilbury's, and while I seek and desire newly broken ground in how music sounds or is made as much as anyone there is still room to admire and celebrate the way two masters at their particular art go about creating something this thoughtful and beautiful. Active since the mid-1960s, England's AMM have become an icon of the free improvisational movement. In the spring of 2004, due to personal and philosophical disagreements, Keith Rowe suspended his involvement with AMM, an association that went back to his role as founding member in 1965 (albeit with an almost decade-long disenfranchisement through the '70s). The remaining members, percussionist Eddie Prévost and pianist John Tilbury, elected to continue on as AMM, and this their latest effort. Tilbury, in duo format, becomes a somewhat more active participant than he often was in the trio, forcing the action a bit more than floating atop it, bursting into abrupt Taylorisms here and there in addition to his more delicate arpeggiating. One continuous hour-long piece, a setting closely aligned with the group's longstanding commitment to electroacoustic improvisation and one of the final documented performances of the trio.
By this stage AMM's language had been distilled into a near-silent, highly attentive practice in which conventional instrumental identities dissolve into a shared sonic field. Prévost articulates space and texture as much as rhythmic gesture, Rowe introduces fragile discontinuities and low-level interference, and Tilbury, often reduced to isolated tones, internal resonances and measured decay, anchors the ensemble through restraint rather than assertion. The music does not develop in linear fashion: it advances as a continuous act of listening, where events emerge, dissipate and reconfigure with extreme sensitivity to duration and presence, and silence functions as active material shaping the form of the piece.
The album takes its title from an extended coughing episode in the audience, initially impossible to ignore, eventually absorbed into the continuum of sound and listening, true to AMM's egalitarian approach to sonic phenomena and to a discipline in which the smallest inflection assumes structural significance. "It is given to very few artists to have created a language entirely their own, but that is what AMM has done over the years, in various line-ups and configurations, with Eddie Prévost on drums as the only unifying element since 1965, and with John Tilbury on piano for the last two decades, here with just the two of them. You may like them or not, but they have made history, and they still do, with lots of young musicians moving into the broad avenue they created.
They were among the first artists to work with the endless sound possibilities of their instruments, like archeologists carefully unearthing new layers of sounds, and especially those that had never been there in the first place!
This album, subtitled Postcards from Jaslo was recorded at the concert hall of the Jasielski Dom Kultury (Jaslo Cultural Centre) in southern Poland on 15th May 2010, and the entire album resonates with the space that it was recorded in. The music remains fascinating, even more minimalist due to the limited instrumentation, yet equally evocative and expressive as their previous albums. And yes, the approach and the overall sound are predictable - this is AMM beyond any doubt - the preciousness, the sophistication, the inventiveness, the cautious discipline, the love for the sound itself, the incredible tension and sustained sense of anticipation... it is all there, beautifully there...
The absolute brilliance of this music is the attention given to detail. In most other kinds of music, there seems to be an absolute abundance of notes, spent and consumed carelessly, but here, with AMM every note seems and sounds incredibly valuable, as something that has to be used sparingly, in order to really be fully appreciated and savoured. AMM's performance at the 2009 Freedom of the City Festival with AMM regular members Eddie Prevost and John Tilbury extended with John Butcher, Chritian Wolff and Ute Kanngiesser. "[...] Certainly in places this sounds like AMM through and through. When Prévost and Tilbury are working together it really cannot be anything else. I find myself hearing the connections between these two musicians through everything else, no matter what other sounds are there to be heard. There are the little climaxes, the slow arcs towards the small explosions of expression, the way Prévost uses his bowed sounds as the scaffold for the others to climb up and over, the sprinkling of Tilbury's piano sounds throughout in just the places Tilbury leaves them, the connections between these two sets of sounds leaves the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end. They did eighteen years ago when I first hear them live, they still do now. Then though, there are the elements in this recording that stand out as something new, sounds that do not seem to belong traditionally in AMM, and yes most of them here do come from Wolff, the little burst of pocket harmonica, the tapping of stones together that ends the performance, the single plucked guitar note that ends a section of the music twenty minutes in, but they don't sound so intrusive here, just little elements that catch your ear as unusual. The International Carnival of Experimental Sound, or ICES '72 for short, was an ambitious festival sprung from the mind of Harvey 'Job' Matusow (1926-2002). Jumping off from his associations with the influential Source magazine, Harvey brought together over 300 artists from more than 21 countries to perform in London, England over the course of two weeks in August of 1972. Based on the theme of Myth, Magic Madness and Mysticism, he assembled an amazing diversity of performers working in diverse range of audio-visual arts.
Encompassing happenings, films, dance, a train ride, and the phantom soft pool table, the focus was on sound -- specifically that of artists who were both composers and performers. Most of the concerts were held at The Roundhouse, a cavernous structure that was formerly a railroad engine house. Now, for the first time in 30 years, these recordings can be heard.
This first CD in a series documenting the festival features the complete concert given by legendary free improvising group AMM. Represented here by Eddie Prevost and Lou Gare, they offer up powerful explosions of saxophone and drums punctuated with their famous AMM silences. 2000年5月にグラスゴーのフリー・ラジオ・フェスティバルで録音されたトリオ演奏!!Eddie Prevost、John Tilbury、Keith Rowe、AMMトリオ編成の音源として2001年にリリース、一度廃盤となりリイシューもされている約57分に及ぶ名作CD音源[Tunes Without Measure Or End]。トランジスタラジオを近くに配置しハミングのようなフィードバックや耳障りな金属音を発するKeith Rowe、それとは真逆の良質なピアノの音響からまるで子守唄のような演奏を披露するJohn Tilbury、パートが進むに連れ様々なバリエーションを展開するEddie Prevost、一貫して緊張感のある演奏形態がカッコイイ。
AMM and their CDs have an almost comfortable familiarity. The trio's personnel has remained fundamentally the same since the early '80s when pianist John Tilbury joined the remaining founders, drummer Eddie Prévost and guitarist Keith Rowe. Every two or three years they release a CD, usually a single uninterrupted improvisation, about an hour in length, taped in performance. The only way in which these two CDs tamper with that practice is that they were both released in 2001. 'Tunes Without Measure' 'was recorded at Glasgow's free radiCCAls festival in May 2000 ; 'Fine' a year later at France's Musique Action festival. It takes its name from the dancer Fine Kwiatkowski, a silent partner in the performance.
'Tunes Without Measure' is a slowly unfolding dreamscape in which the group attenuates both time and space. In this specific performance, Tilbury and Rowe represent very different sonic vocabularies. Tilbury delights in the acoustic resonance of a good piano, in the clearly articulated tone or cluster. His sounds hang in the air in a way that seems traditionally beautiful. Rowe's fundamental sounds are abrasive metallic ratchetings, humming feedback, treble-loaded pings and bowed guitar that might be attached to nerve ends. And always the presence of his transistor radio, ready to intrude momentarily the outside world in its worst light — "Sushi isn't just for fish!" is this day's clearest message. But together AMM create a sonic space so large here, so fundamentally clear, that there's room for the two approaches to co-exist, as if Rowe and Tilbury sometimes played at opposite ends of the universe. That expansive space is a genuinely collective creation, one that seems to draw on the audience's attention for some of its capacity. It's absurd to point out highlights in work at once as diverse and unified as this, but the combination of sonically distinct, sustained tones from the three musicians in "Tune Two" and Tilbury's lullaby-like playing in the closing "Tune Six" are especially beautiful.
While 'Fine's' opening percussion might suggest that the same ritual is about to be enacted, its first "segment" describes an utterly different world — mechanical, harsh, a world that Tilbury's piano enters warily at first before his metallic string-sweeps arise to complement the maze of feedback electronics and percussion. This world of difference between the two pieces demonstrates how far the AMM improvisation is from conventional ceremony. If it is, in a sense, a ritual of reintegration — of self, community, the senses — then it appears to work only the same way once. That is, it is a process that demands originality, a unique responsiveness to the day's possibilities. Four pieces by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, a pioneer of “holy minimalism.” The album centers around a never-before-released rendition of “Silentium,” the second movement of Pärt’s most famous concerto, Tabula Rasa, performed by Boston-based chamber orchestra A Far Cry. The group plays “Silentium” at nearly half the speed of the best-known version, released on ECM in 1984. The piece, known for its healing properties for the dying and often used in palliative care facilities (one patient famously called it “angel music”), is breathtaking at half speed, seemingly stilling time itself.
The album compiles some of the most stunning renditions of Pärt’s music ever recorded. “Vater Unser (Arr. for trombone & string ensemble)” is somehow warm and austere at once. A miniature epic. Pianist Marcel Worm’s solo version of “Variationen zur Gesundung von Arinuschka” is as beautiful as anything we’ve ever heard. “Fratres for Strings and Percussion” is one of Arvo Pärt’s most celebrated works. The Hungarian State Opera Orchestra’s version is iconic, filled with emotional playing right on the verge of overly romantic, but never tipping over.
Pärt’s approach to both music and life is as sparse as the compositions he creates. He once said, “I have nothing to say… Music says what I need to say. After three decades of fooling around with the double bass, my two new releases of bass music (Random Partials/Twinings and Spektralkompass/Sterbendes Hertz) present a seismic change of style, a massacre of elements where everything but the pure essence has been shaved away.
This is a music of study, research, of purely personal interests in sound and technique. It doesn’t portray emotions, and it doesn’t address or describe anything outside itself (the most poetic often lies in the work titles). Everything in these new pieces is cut down to the bone. What left is sound and technique.
And extremes. I’ve always been interested in idiomaticity on the double bass, in “techniques that originate from the instrument itself” (to quote my own reflection from a bygone era in a text called A Folk Music for the Double Bass). But to blur this a bit I want to add idiosyncratic to the idiomatic. Because for me, the golden chest is the one that contains personal and individual rediscoveries of sounds and techniques belonging to the old idioms. By exploring the common-use, I can perhaps walk down the path with others. A path that I rarely step off, but constantly expand the boundaries of, setting new extremes. And pushing the limits, in one way or another, is an absolute necessity in my practice.
In the past I’ve labeled my music contemporary music, plain and simple, but in the process of preparing the releases on Bandcamp, I found it difficult to label/tag them correctly. Is it experimental music, classical contemporary, avantgarde, experimental-avantgarde, classical-avantgarde, minimalism? Browsing the different genres on Bandcamp and checking out the different artists there hasn’t really given me many clues. For example, these pieces might have all the characteristics of minimal music, in fact they are extremely minimalistic, yet I don’t think they fit into the idiom of minimalism. And so on.
The insistence on extremes and the problems of placing the music within a clear genre is making my work a little bit less accessible for both performers and listeners. Yet, this music represents a radical change in direction for me, and hopefully it will gradually find its place among my audience as well.

The title "Clould" convolutes the words "cloud", hinting at humankind’s fascination of supposed supernatural beings that lived in clouds or created them, and "could", a potentiality. Historical mythologies are placed in the context of 21st century airborne mass transport that propels large groups of human beings — passive by force — through a space that once belonged to mythological beings and energies. And to the clouds, of course. The "Clould" cycle of electroacoustic music pieces and its preamble "Aiear" (Crónica 218~2024) together consist of 95 minutes of music, five microstories, the libretto for its fifth movement, a number of aerial photographs and text charts, and a performance concept including the first three movements. This CD features the complete five movements of "Clould".
“Clould” is composed with sounds from inside airplanes and airports recorded in various ways: from the check-in luggage, with electromagnetic sensors, from the onboard entertainment system, or just straight with normal mics. Voice recordings from in-flight announcements have been processed in pilgrim’s stride mode, meaning that they have been repeatedly stretched and compressed with slightly altering settings until machinic chimeras appear – the ultimate disembodied voice. In the final “5th Movement” voices were culled from safety demonstrations or other announcements in various languages, some already intoned mechanically even by the human speakers. By fragmenting such recordings down into individual syllables and recompiling them into new, sometimes unintelligible fantasy sequences of various interconnected and orchestrated voices, phantom words and sentences can be heard. As the “Clould” cycle is based on an English language understanding, both in the accompanying microstories and in the music pieces themselves, a libretto-style transcription reveals English words and onomatopoetic exclamations. This dedicated system very loosely refers to the concept of bījamantra (or bījākṣara: seed syllable) used in Tantric Hinduism and Buddhist Mysticism, in which certain syllables contain sonic essences that make manifestations of a certain element, entity, or deity. The most important bīja “oṃ” just for example, is the quintessence and a manifestation of the universe – more a spiritual than an acoustic sound. In the seven chakra system, it is also the seed syllable associated with the crown chakra (psychic center).

Following the 2015 attacks, all entrances to public buildings – schools, churches, mosques, synagogues, museums, town halls, police stations, etc. – were reinforced by these metal barriers, without any prior consultation with local residents nor with their being given any indication of how long they would remain in place. The public space has been covered with these barriers, which, over the last decade, summer and winter, day and night, have become the symbols of low-noise security in everyday life.

While the issue of security was part of my initial enquiry – what and who are we protecting ourselves from ? are we protected by these barriers? – I was particularly interested in hearing how these objects themselves perceive the city, particularly the Parc de La Villette. As a result I opted for a pair of contact mics, specifically to record how the environment was transmitted inside their steel structure. If their
resonance was my main subject of attention, I also sought to hear how the wind made them sound, by setting them in motion.

Spaniard Francisco López is one of the most recognised sound artists on the international scene: in the span of four decades of activity, he has developed an extremely personal sound universe, based on a deep listening of the world. He created hundreds of sound installations and performances in major museums, galleries and international festivals.
Reinier Van Houdt, Dutch pianist and composer, has built himself an unusual repertoire that is always the result from personal quests, from collaborations with musicians to researches in archives; at AngelicA he played as a member of MAZE, in duo with Michael Pisaro, as soloist with the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna for Yannis Kyriakides, and in solo for Walter Marchetti's Concerto for the left hand; he is also part of Current 93, and has collaborated with Alvin Curran, Christian Marclay and Jürg Frey among others.
untitled #400 is a project presented as a world premiere by Lopez and van Houdt at the opening of the 31st edition of AngelicA, on 15th May 2021. The two musicians already worked together on untitled #275, a performance for mechanically prepared piano, quadraphonics and electronics which received a special mention at the 2011 edition of the Ars Electronica festival in Linz. Slávek and I are both dragging a bit, rushing to get out the door and deploy.
After almost two weeks of nonstop recording, we are both tired and a little homesick.
At this point in the residency we have already found a dependable dawn recording location in a dry creek bed just far enough away from Weederdooper homestead so that our microphones will not pick up breakfast activities and just close enough for us to make it back for a nap before the morning field session. In a strange way this location reminds me of another of Slávek’s favorite recording spots on a small tributary flowing into Lake Mamori in Brazil. Slávek and I share a room at Weederdooper, which makes these dawn sessions simple. Our equipment too tends to share space in locations we scout together during many of the field sessions. We each now have many recordings of the exact same events, but from slightly different perspectives. The dry river bed at Umzumbi, the hippos at Mmabolel Rock, the bridge to Botswana, the watering holes. "...if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you"
This album delves into the abyss of sounds and possibilities of the contemporary double bass, with deeply personal works by composers Øyvind Mæland, Idin Samimi Mofakham, Edvin Østergaard and Jan Martin Smørdal.
The music is multifaceted and portrays a wide range of expressions: from Mæland’s impressionistic interlude (originally composed as a cello solo in his opera Ad undas – Solaris korrigert), via Mofakham’s massive and disturbing sonic reflection on current socio-political events, and Østergaard’s contemplations and outbursts into the bass’ A-string and its (many) partials, to Smørdal’s short and delicate tableaus where he is searching for a complexity in sounds through the presence of the performer.
For me as a performer, it has been particularly rewarding to see how the composers have embraced modern playing techniques on the double bass (some of them even new-found) as a means of exploring their own expressiveness.
ABYSS is a local initiative at the Nesodden peninsula outside Oslo, where I am performing new music for double bass and commissioning works by composers living here. This is the first release of what will hopefully become a series of releases documenting the works that are being composed for me.
The cover art has been created by photographer Jenny Rydhagen, also an artist living at Nesodden. She has created her impressions of the music using analog photography and double exposure collage techniques.

We want to fabricate a new music. We imagine a situation in which the sounding together of tones is never taken for granted, is continually renewed and reinvented. We know that the effect of any set of simultaneous tones, by means of the multiplication implicit in the harmonic series, totals much more than the number of notes played. A room can be made to vibrate with hundreds of frequencies by a single chord. We want to enter into a universe of harmony in which it becomes possible to hear into the interstices of what does notsound by means of what doessound. We will use harmony to probe one world, and when that world is known, move from it to another and another beyond that.
It is with this state of mind that I listen to the music by Jordan Dykstra (b. 1985). It reawakens in me a primal fascination with the simultaneity of sound. Because of the inventiveness of its compositional strategies, the music inspires a sense of open possibility, of something yet to come, of something yet not quite with us. Dykstra has a creative impulse, shared with many experimentalcomposers, of not wanting to repeat in one piece what he has done in another. Each work seems to begin with a moment in an empty space. When I listen carefully before each piece on this disc starts, I have a keen sense of that space. John Butcher - tenor and soprano saxophones
Over 40 years of sustained performance and publishing, English saxophonist, improvisor and composer John Butcher has shaped much of what the soprano and tenor saxophone can do, and what their roles and vocabulary in improvised music might be. There’s a situated purposefulness to Butcher’s music. It is always concerned with its context, flexibility, space and company: how group playing works and flows; how aspects of improvisation fit into a living musical world; how and what the saxophone can be for.
I’ve always heard Butcher’s playing as a kind of nose to tail saxophony, where the whole instrument from reed-tip to brim of bell is available, accessible and articulate. Few other saxophonists slice as sharply back into the physical history, material (and physics) of the instrument, across its near 200 year history through jazz, particularly Lester Young’s infinite permutations, to its speculative, hybrid origins. When Hector Berlioz wrote of his friend Adolphe Sax’s then fresh invention, “the varied beauty of its accent, sometimes serious, sometimes calm, sometimes impassioned, dreamy or melancholic”, he could have been imagining Butcher's distinctively clean but complex, enquiring soundworld.

The two longest pieces are tenor and soprano improvisations recorded in concert at Dragon Club, Poznan (2024) and the famous Blow Out series, Oslo (2025). As a musician, I've been curious for many years of how collective musical practices can provide a sense of weightlessness, as well as how a focused interplay can blur the lines between musicians and sound sources and create reconfigurations of the relations between the two. I have also tried to explore these observations in depth in some of my composed music: during 2015-2017 I experimented with ways to surprise and destabilise myself in the solo format within the compositional framework of pole of inaccessibility (released as THT1, 2016), by way of using an unprepared piano and a Korg MS20 synthesizer.
In the piece featured on this release — Some Of Them Were Never Unprepared — I wanted to explore similar processes but in the context of an ensemble. Influenced by, e.g., gamelan, krautrock, and the music of Tony Conrad and Arnold Dreyblatt, I wrote the piece during 2020 and 2021 and it premiered at the Stockholm festival Svensk Musikvår in March 2021.
I tried to create an environment wherein each of the performing musicians would attain a state of intense focus (on their own striking, plucking and bowing tasks). At the same time, I wanted the musicians to be somewhat forced to listen closely to the whole, and possibly to get lost in the sound of the ensemble.
The compositional method that I used was to structure most of the rhythmical and tonal material in unison or in a few groups, and mainly use instruments with preparations (which in some cases would gradually move on the strings). My ambition was that this would create a difficulty for the musicians to distinguish all sound sources (not least their own ones) at all times, and that this uncertainness would establish a particular kind of concentration and collective bond that in turn would result in a sound world that would feel open and non-proclamative to a listener.
The music was especially composed for, and arranged and performed by an ensemble consisting of 13 musicians, based in Sweden and Greece, who are active on the scenes of experimental jazz, contemporary classical music, folk, rock noise and various forms of improvised music. Their musicality and devotion have been crucial in order to make the piece come alive and to sound like it does; their performance and presence provide the flesh and blood that is needed. The album was recorded and mixed by Niclas Lindström at studio Atlantis Grammofon, and mastered by Mell Dettmer, both to whom I am very grateful.

素晴らしい楽曲編成のソロ作!!ビョークとの共演等でも知られる、80年代よりニューヨークを拠点にハープ奏者として活動を続けるベテランプレイヤーZeena Parkins。2022年の合併を理由に、独立した女子大学としての歴史に幕を下ろしたミルズ・カレッジ。そこで過ごした13年間の教職を締めくくる作品として彼女が制作したソロアルバム[Lament for the Mak]。ラディーグ作品の演奏も記憶に新しいLaetitia Sonami、電子音楽集団The League Of Automatic Music ComposersのメンバーJohn Bischoff、Anthony Braxtonとも一緒にやっているサックス奏者James Fei、彼らの楽曲をエレクトロニクス&ハープで演奏した充実の一枚。
“In 2022, with the closing of Mills College imminent and my bicoastal life coming to an end along with it, I requested of my colleagues works I could perform to mark this loss, honor the school's great legacy, and conclude the thirteen years I spent teaching there. They all graciously agreed. Lament for the Maker is the title of a Jack Spicer poem originally published in San Francisco, in 1963.”
There are three recently commissioned works for solo harp and the final piece, berlin bedroom, an ongoing acoustic harp solo by Parkins which began in 2014. This CD serves as an homage to the Bay Area and is dedicated to students, colleagues and a collective devotion to experimental art making.
1_Laetitia Sonami, She is a Butcher in my Dreams (2024) The title of the composition echoes my fascination with Zeena’s unabashed physicality as she deftly splits, slices, rubs and strikes her instrument. We explored a tactile language where acoustics and electronic sounds are in dialog and invite the listener’s ear to travel “inside” the instrument.
2_John Bischoff, pluck (2022) is a duo piece for harp and electronics composed for Zeena Parkins. The electronic part runs automatically and variably in response to Zeena’s playing in each performance. Zeena can influence the activity and momentum of the electronics from beginning to end. Zeena’s pitch choices as she improvises in dialog with the electronics are one of the more remarkable features of her performance. Her innumerable ways of articulating the harp create a complex unity in parallel with the diverse voicings of the electronics. Such animated symbiosis is characteristic of her brilliant musicality throughout.
3_James Fei, In Such Circumstances of Miscalculations (2023) isn’t so much a piece for harp as it’s a piece for Zeena. I wanted to make something that engaged with her unique voice as a composer and improvisor, and I also hoped that the open aspects of the piece might pose musical problems that she would find interesting—it felt like a continuation of the exchange of ideas we’ve had in the over a decade of teaching together at Mills College.
4_Zeena Parkins berlin bedroom (2014-ongoing) is structured around the harp’s sonic limits: a challenging of its fixed pitches that are impossible to bend by design (without utilizing metal bolts, slides, harp tuners, etc.). These impossibilities are tackled by commandeering and repurposing the instrument’s inner mechanics. The version on this CD was the last piece from my final performance at Mills College, in beautiful Littlefield Concert Hall, on February 10, 2024. A fitting end to it all. The audience applauds, marking the moment, the place, and the community.

Mieko Shiomi is known both for her avant-garde musical activities with the Group Ongaku collective during her student years and for her participation in Fluxus from 1964 onwards. The Fluxus Festival held in Venice in 1990, to which she was invited, became a pivotal event that brought about a major shift in her subsequent work. That same year, she self-released a cassette requiem in memory of Fluxus founder George Maciunas.
This tape work combines original compositions performed on synthesizer harpsichord and organ with recordings of her own voice played backwards. These sound sources were taken to a studio and edited together with environmental sounds recorded at the Venice venue. The piece also incorporates the voices of key Fluxus artists including La Monte Young, Marian Zazeela, Eric Andersen, Willem de Ridder, and Ken Friedman. Making use of the specific properties of tape, the piece integrates unique ideas and structures and occupies a distinctive place among Shiomi’s oeuvre.
This reissue includes an A4-sized, eight-page booklet (in Japanese and English) including a newly written commentary by Shiomi, along with photographs taken in Venice at the time and reproductions of the score.

The experimental project Pissoff was founded in the late 60s by multimedia-artist Eberhard Kranemann and some friends who studied together at the Düsseldorf Academy Of Fine Arts. The chaotic, loud and soundwise undisciplined band took part in various events at this location and other places. Due to the intense fluctuation of band-members the performances by Pissoff were characterized by continously changing participants and variations of the involved equipment: cello, violin, clarinet, tenor saxophone, flute, vocals, electric guitar, electric bass guitar, organ and drums. In 1968 Pissoff performed together with Joseph Beuys who was professor of sculpture at the Art Academy at that time. During this incomparable audiovisual interaction Joseph Beuys staged his Hndaktion: in concentrated manner he moved his hands in front of his head while listening and visually reacting to the very loud and abstract staccato-rhythms by Pissoff. The event was recorded by Eberhard Kranemann on a Telefunken mono-tape-recorder and remains the only existing audio-material by Pissoff until today. On that night Eberhard played cello, clarinet and tenor saxophone while the other members added sounds by electric guitar, electric bass and drums. Earliest musical experimentations that can be defined as the origins of the band Kraftwerk already started in 1967 by Eberhard Kranemann and Florian Schneider-Esleben. Officer! was founded by Londoner Mick Hobbs. His roots were in the Rock In Opposition scene of the late 70s and early 80s. Initially he worked as guitarist in The Work, subsequently he became closely associated with This Heat and their Cold Storage Studio in Brixton, working with artists like Family Fodder, Catherine Jauniaux or Zeena Parkins. The band's first album "8 New Songs By Mick Hobbs" came out in 1982 on casette only. It was followed by the second album, "Ossification". The third album, "Cough" was recorded and released in France in 1985.
It is often overlooked in the band's discography, a fate that many cassette releases share. "8 New Songs By Mick Hobbs" and "Cough" have been collected to form the CD "Earlier Music", which was also made available again by Klanggalerie. Bandagen was originally released as a cassette in 1989 by Swiss label No Records. Half of the music was written for a stage play called Bandagen by Grazia Pergoletti, the other half was originally released as music by Mick Hobbs. Kathamenja was first released by Lona Records in 2011 and returns on BeTon Raw in a new CDr edition. Maurizio Bianchi composed, recorded and performed the five tracks, from FSH-LH and The Scarlet Flux to Mectpyo Evacuation, Physiologic Catharsis and the 24-minute title piece, close to seventy minutes in all. The preface printed in the package reads:
"In the informal medicalese, "kathamenja" is the synonymous for sanguiferous menstruations, gory menses, bleeding period, but the self-regulation of veritable sparingness infringes the obscurantist prototype for melanotic legalization. The halogen inspiration dispraises every particle of this conveyer opus, until the cankerous anaesthetization. Is it purely impressionable or merely indifferent?"

Anechoic-Y gathers two pieces of about sixteen minutes each, Ane-Y and Choic-Y, that Maurizio Bianchi, signing as M.B., performed with what the insert calls anenoises and choictronics, recorded at an undetermined time in 2017 at the Emoptyc studio in Opera. The artwork plays on photographs of anechoic chambers, the rooms built to absorb every reflection of sound.

Don Bikoff released one lone, rare solo album, 'Celestial Explosion', on Keyboard Records in 1968, now reissued on LP/CD/DL by Tompkins Square. Watch the YouTube video of Bikoff playing on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour, taped May 12, 1968. You'll see the sheepish, long-haired, mustachioed musician spinning gold in a style (still?) so foreign to the mainstream listener. The befuddled host concludes after Don's performance, "That's unusual to say the least." A kid from Oyster Bay, LI, Bikoff got his start in Greenwich Village, annoying Dave Van Ronk and playing the folk/blues circuit where he met Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Jesse Fuller and Mississippi John Hurt. The comparisons to John Fahey's and Robbie Basho's work stated in the LP liner notes touched a nerve with Fahey himself at the time. Today, those comparisons are still inevitable, however they are for lazy ears. Mnemonists, on the first album called Mnemonist Orchestra, is U.S collective of avant-garde musicians from Colorado, led by Mark Derbyshire and William Sharp. Their music is a mixture of modern classical, experimental sounds, noise, industrial, avant-garde and free jazz. Their releases were published by their own self-produced label Dys between 1981 and 1986. By 1985 the group had split off into separate groups for visual and audio work. From that time, Mnemonists operated only as a visual arts collective while the musical activity was taken over by a new group called Biota that featured a few of the musicians involved with Mnemonists as well as many new members. The two groups co-exist and share only a few members. The Mnemonist Orchestra album was recorded in March 1979 at Fort Collins, Colorado. The musicians improvised within loose arrangements intended to suggest the concept of each piece. The Traumstadt series collects compilation appearances by the group, with Traumstadt 2 maybe being the best of these collections. It focuses on rare tracks from 1984 to 1988 and was originally released on cassette by the band's own Mirrordot label. 主に女性のポートレイトを用いるコラージュ作家として知られ、並行して音楽家としても活動をしてきたデンマークのアーチストøjeRumことPaw Grabowski。2007年に1stアルバム[There Is A Flaw In My Iris]を発表、少し期間を置いた2014年より自主制作を含む大量のリリースを開始。そのどれもが自身のコラージュを配した美しい装丁と共に発表され、殆どのフィジカル作品が即完売、入手困難な状況となっていた為、Art into Lifeが初期の6作品を新装丁にて再発。
本作は初のセルフリリースものとして2014年に発表された3rd[He Remembers There Were Gardens]。前2作で軸としていたギターからは離れ、オルガン録音を加工し、ひたすらに不安定な起伏を刻み続けたクラシカルなミニマル長編。

Moon Viewing Music (Inscrutable Stillness Studies #1) is a quiet, sparse, introspective six-movement work for three large gongs and a large tam-tam. Performed by celebrated new-music percussionist William Winant, it unfolds with a muted sensuality and a glacial inevitability—as if bent on suspending time. Each of the movements (or individual “pieces,” as the composer sometimes refers to them) has a distinct character, developing in its own fashion—utilizing such traditional means as canons and rhythmic augmentations, as well as more free-form structures.
The composer writes: “Moon Viewing Music is composed for three large knobbed gongs and one large tam-tam. For the gongs I want a deep low sound; but at the same time the relationship between them {and the character of the pieces in which multiple gongs are featured) is essentially melodic. I am not fixing pitches or interval relationships, so as not to limit possibilities (and to accommodate what might be available on hand). But the tonal (and harmonic/vibrational) character of the three gongs is very important.… The gongs and tam-tam should be allowed to resonate and decay freely. Veteran UK musician/composer Robert Haigh returns to Siren for the first time in three years. Although not a major departure from Haigh's previous work for the label (three albums of piano music released between 2009 and 2011 subsequently known as the Siren Trilogy) this 18 track collection benefits from a wider pallet of subtle sonic textures. With The Silence Of Ghosts Haigh has visioned a journey through strange and beautiful terrain - a topography of fragile melodies and muted discords.
The opening track, Song Of Selene, is a spacious, hymn-like nocturne; hauntingly stark and reflective. In Another Light is an off-beat waltz (3/4, 2/4 time) in which a cyclic theme explores major and minor keys with subtle electronic shimmers. Crooked Mile is a Satie-esque outing featuring an angular melody that climbs through strange modal keys to a discordant destination. The title track The Silence Of Ghosts is achingly melodic, yearning and touching - a eulogy to things that have passed. Where later tracks such as Happening no. 1 and 2 explore Haigh's gift for improvisation, the ghostly Demian Air presents a deep sonic excursion through electronic textures where submerged piano notes echo across alien terrain. The closing track, New Cross Counterpoint, was originally based on a refrain from Haigh's own earlier composition of the same name (from A Waltz In Plain C). The track with its Glass-like arpeggiated piano counterpoint subsequently took on a life of its own but Haigh decided to keep the title anyway since it 'felt right' for the piece.
The Silence Of Ghosts is a mature and deeply reflective work employing Robert Haigh's distinctive subverted melodies and spacious counterpoint. This collection should appeal to fans of Satie, Debussy, Harold Budd, Philip Glass and Max Richter.

Mnemonists, on the first album called Mnemonist Orchestra, is U.S collective of avant-garde musicians from Colorado, led by Mark Derbyshire and William Sharp. Their music is a mixture of modern classical, experimental sounds, noise, industrial, avant-garde and free jazz. Their releases were published by their own self-produced label Dys between 1981 and 1986. By 1985 the group had split off into separate groups for visual and audio work. From that time, Mnemonists operated only as a visual arts collective while the musical activity was taken over by a new group called Biota that featured a few of the musicians involved with Mnemonists as well as many new members. The two groups co-exist and share only a few members. Some Attributes Of A Living System was originally released in 1980 in a limited edition of 500 copies on the band's own Dys Label. It is the first album to carry the Mnemonists name and was re-issued in 1985 as half of a double LP by Dys - the other half being the first album, Mnemonist Orchestra. The songs are all entitled Fragments, consisting of improvisation within very basic arrangements.
