"This small archive is a glimpse of a body of work made between 2014-2023 for, on, or with radio. I’ve been fascinated by broadcast radio since the earliest stages of working as a musician. I’m grateful to have been given many opportunities to make radio shows in a variety of different contexts, and over the years have produced hours of work for the medium. Most of this has happened in London, with UK-based collaborators.

There is of course a real beauty in the ephemerality of the broadcast - it disappears (literally) into the ether once transmitted - and I love and respect this dimension of radio. This archive then is not so much an act of personal preservation, but rather an attempt to present a snapshot of a continually developing practice and body of work, and perhaps most importantly to capture an impression of a small community of friends and collaborators who have helped to articulate a contribution to what I think is a vital, and idiosyncratic subculture of experimental sound work.

All of the tracks are of course, removed from their original contexts. It would have felt cumbersome to try and fill in these contextual gaps for each, and so by and large, I haven’t. I suggest enjoying this archive more as a dislocated, hypnagogic constellation of moments. The earlier material generally plays on commercial and mainstream radio tropes, later works engage more with the material aspects of radio sound and the almost telepathic nature of medium itself. Other clips highlight the possibility of the live broadcast as a window onto vérité moments of encounter.

None of this work would have been possible without the support of a multitude of artist collaborators, producers, and technicians. Extra special thanks goes to Ed Baxter and Milo Thesiger-Meacham at Resonance FM and Resonance Extra. My first ever radio show was made for Resonance (in I think, 2008), and they’ve continued to be deeply valued supporters of my work since. Many of the tracks here were captured in Resonance FM’s old Borough studio space in South London; a bright yellow room tucked away behind the high street, home to a constant stream of London’s most idiosyncratic musicians and artists. It was truly one of my favourite places to visit anywhere in the world for over a decade." - Neil Luck
