This is my ode to corn in 3 parts, all featuring corn as corn himself.
There are 6 pieces composed for 7 handmade instruments, made entirely out of different parts of corn, with some thread and wood glue as well.
There is a cornfield recording, taken on a day they were harvesting just under a mile or so away.
And there is a musique concrete type of piece featuring field recordings and the instruments.
This album was made during my residency at Art Farm in Marquette, Nebraska, surrounded by infinite and inedible cornfields. All the corn is for livestock feed or ethanol. I wanted the corn to speak for himself, instead of always being used for something else. I wanted him to have an opportunity to just sing and dance and play as corn for corn.
A million thanks to my October cohort who played the instruments on this album: Christina, Jaeyon, Charlotte, Franny, Storm, and Katie. They are all artists, writers, geniuses, and my new dear friends.
Thank you to Ed, Grace, and X at Art Farm for the time and space to create.
