メチャクチャ素晴らしいコンポジション作品!!主に沈黙を使う長編作で知られ、大規模アンサンブルや抽象フィールドレコーディング、そしてジョン・ケージ、クリスチャン・ウォルフ、ジェームズ・テニーら巨匠勢の作品演奏も行うヴァンデルヴァイザー派の重要コンポーザーMichael Pisaro-Liu。本作[anabasis (1)]は、5人の演奏者の為の全72部からなる楽曲であり、"砂"、"風"、"音"、"波"という4つの音素材に5つ目の要素として"間奏"を入れ、その相互作用を記録したもの。演奏には扇風機や巨大な帆、オブジェが用いられ、多様な手法にて連続性を変化させて行く様が非常に興味深い。



anabasis (1) is a composition in 72 parts for five musicians, based on four kinds of materials: Sand, Wind, Tone and Wave; these materials are arranged and intertwined with a fifth ‘Interludes’ strand that interacts with the four materials. All of these are then ‘unbound’ over the course of the piece by changing continuity in a variety of ways outlined in the score. This interpretation of the score is a live performance that features prepared reed organ, electromagnetic pick-ups, sand, pedals, DSP, various objects, a fan, microphones, and a giant sail.

In March 2024 AJ suggested that we come together from a group of improvisers in Huddersfield and Leeds (at the time) to play this score with the group. After a few practices we played the piece twice for an audience, once at Leeds University, and once at Goldsmiths, University of London. This is a recording of the latter performance.
