David Sani は1968年生まれ、イタリアの音楽家。本名の David Sani 以外に、Shinkei、Yugen、Koan というプロジェクト名も使い分けて、ミニマリズムに徹した音楽活動をおこなっている。2007年には、同じイタリアの音楽家 Luigi Turra と共同でレーベル Koyuki を立ち上げている。Pierre Gerard は1966年生まれ、ベルギーの即興演奏家 / 作曲家。ギター、ピアノ、エレクトロニクスなど多彩に楽器を使い分け、Ftarri ほか世界各国の即興 / 実験音楽レーベルから旺盛に作品を発表している。

本アルバムは、David Sani と Pierre Gerard が2021年10月から12月にかけて、互いの地元 (イタリア、シエーナとベルギー、リエージュ) で各々制作したサウンドから仕上げた4曲を収録。David Sani は月琴やほかの弦楽器、フィールド・レコーディング、エレクトロニクスを、Pierre Gerard はエレクトリック・ギター、アコースティック・ギター、チェロ、ヴァイオリン、オルガン、バス・クラリネット、笙、ヴォイス、エレクトロニクスなど多様な楽器を使用。様々なタイプの楽器と音が使われているにもかかわらず、作られた曲は終始簡素に静かに進行する。それでいて、これらのミニマリスティックな曲想は非常に印象的で味わい深い。





Italian musician David Sani (born in 1968) carries out highly minimalistic musical activities under his own name and the project names Shinkei, Yugen and Koan. Together with Italian musician Luigi Turra, he launched the label Koyuki in 2007. Belgian improviser and composer Pierre Gerard (born in 1966) makes varied and discerning use of instruments including guitar, piano and electronics. He releases numerous recordings on Ftarri and other improvised/experimental music labels from around the world.

This album contains four pieces created by Sani and Gerard from sounds produced by each of them in their respective hometowns (Siena, Italy, and Liege, Belgium) between October and December 2021. The instruments were diverse. Sani used yue-ch’in, strings, field recordings and electronics, while Gerard utilized instruments including electric guitar, acoustic guitar, cello, violin, organ, bass clarinet, sho, voice and electronics. Despite the wide variety of instruments and sounds, the resulting pieces proceed in a simple, quiet manner throughout. And yet their minimalistic musical ideas are truly compelling and resonant.
