極上のピアノソロ!!カナダの激ヤバ弦楽四重奏グループQuatuor Bozziniへの楽曲提供、また英コンテンポラリーレーベルAnother Timbreからは本作が3タイトル目となるカナダのコンポーザーMartin Arnold。全79分間という長時間に及ぶピアノソロ作品であり、元々は同レーベルから出版された、あのモートン・フェルドマン5CDボックスを演奏していたPhilip Thomasからの委嘱作品だったもの。氏が重度の体調不良となった為ピアニストにはApartment HouseのKerry Yongを起用、とても内省的で重みのある表現が美しい。



'Flax' is a 79-minute solo work for piano by the Canadian composer Martin Arnold. It was commissioned in 2020 by the pianist Philip Thomas, but sadly Philip became seriously unwell shortly afterwards. Martin Arnold completed the composition in 2021, and - as Philip was now unable to perform it - the project was taken on by Kerry Yong, with Philip's agreement and support.

'Flax' was premiered by Kerry Yong at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in November 2023, when the CD recording was released.

The piece is dedicated to Philip Thomas.
