Label: Pogus Productions
his release reissues Robert Rutman's Pogus lp (P201-1) and includes an additional track. Rutman (b. 1930) has been building and performing on his homemade metallic instruments for many years. This recording features his buzz chime, steel cello, and bow chime, along with tabla, Tibetan horn, and Rutman's vocal chants. Rutman caresses the metal, drawing out eerie drones and overtones that buzz and trumpet. The music in turn can be as fragile as glass or reach the depths of resonance, as if one has just come upon singing whales at sea. Beautiful music
All tracks composed by Robert Rutman
Tracks 1-4 were recorded live at the home and studio of Robert V Guarente, which was the former New Hope Baptist Church* in Winchester, Massachusetts in March 1989 and issued on the Pogus LP "1939".
Track 5 is a previously unreleased bonus track recorded live in Berlin.
* The former New Hope Baptist Church, which between 1981 and 2016 became known a "musicians' musicians" venue for musical artists worldwide is now, due to Robert V Guarente's efforts, a protected historical building, and this history is documented by the Winchester Historical Society.
